Dozens of civilians have been killed in the northern region of South Sudan within the last 48 hours, according to the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS). The mission expressed alarm at the escalating violence in Abiemnom, Ruweng Administrative Area, following reports of the recent killings.
UNMISS reported that unidentified armed youth launched an attack on the Abiemnom county headquarters, situated near the Sudan border, resulting in 23 people being wounded. In a statement, the Mission also expressed concern over reports suggesting that numerous civilians and several local officials were among those who lost their lives in the clashes on Sunday.
