Critics and social media users are taunting US President Donald Trump with the moniker "TACO Trump" following his agreement to a ceasefire with Iran.
"TACO Trump" is an acronym and nickname for the president, standing for "Trump Always Chickens Out."
The term was coined by columnist Robert Armstrong last year to describe Trump's behavior in relation to his tariff policies. Armstrong observed that Trump would initially make aggressive threats or impose high tariffs, causing market fluctuations, only to later backtrack, postpone, or negotiate them, leading to stock market recoveries.
Although Trump has rejected this characterization of his negotiation style, White House officials have portrayed the ceasefire as a strategic move towards achieving a lasting agreement rather than a retreat.
The United States, Israel, and Iran have reached a two-week ceasefire agreement facilitated by Pakistani mediation, with US and Iranian officials scheduled to engage in talks on Friday to explore a potential long-term resolution.
The ceasefire arrangement was finalized shortly after Trump made a provocative statement on Truth Social, threatening to obliterate Iranian civilization.
While both Tehran and Washington have agreed to engage in discussions, there appears to be substantial disparity between Iran's 10-point proposals - which Trump acknowledged as a "viable foundation" for negotiations - and the 15-point plan previously presented by the US. This discrepancy suggests that significant gaps must be addressed in order to reach a consensus.
