Pedestrian killed, another critically injured in Ascot Vale collision

A tragic incident unfolded in Ascot Vale, resulting in the death of a pedestrian and leaving another critically injured. The incident occurred near the Melbourne Showgrounds when a car veered onto the sidewalk and struck the two pedestrians.

The second victim, who was hit on Langs Road shortly before 5:00 p.m., has been hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. Police apprehended a man at the scene, coinciding with the ongoing Supanova Clinic Con & Gaming event at the Showgrounds over the weekend.

According to a police statement, a grey Toyota reportedly mounted a curb on Langs Road and hit the pedestrians just before 5 p.m. Regrettably, one of the pedestrians, who has not yet been formally identified, succumbed to the injuries at the scene.

"The second pedestrian was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries," the police statement added.

The investigation into the collision is still underway, as Victoria police mentioned in a statement reported by the Guardian. The Supanova Comic Con event, known for attracting numerous comic and gaming enthusiasts, has drawn large crowds to the already bustling area in Melbourne.
