Construction of floating jetty commences at a cost of Rs120 million

Construction has commenced on a floating jetty at the Korangi Fisheries Harbour, with a budget of Rs120 million allocated for the project. The aim of this initiative is to enhance the efficiency of landing and offloading export-quality fish catch.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, made this announcement during a meeting of the Korangi Fisheries Harbour Authority (KoFHA) board. Present at the meeting were Director General Dr. Shahid Aslam, Chairman Abrar Asim, and other board members. Minister Chaudhry emphasized that the floating jetty, expected to be completed by June 2026, is a significant step towards improving facilities for small-scale fisherfolk.

The minister highlighted that the floating jetty will provide a safer and more reliable access point to the water, facilitating the smooth landing and unloading of fish catch. This initiative is designed to enhance operational efficiency and create economic opportunities for coastal communities.

Unlike traditional fixed structures, the floating jetty will adapt to tidal variations, reducing reliance on water levels and ensuring continuous access for fishing vessels. This feature will enable fishermen to handle their catch efficiently under any tidal conditions.

Minister Junaid Anwar mentioned that the improved accessibility will lead to shorter turnaround times between fishing trips, allowing fishermen to spend more time at sea and decrease operational costs. The floating jetty is particularly beneficial for shallow-water areas where fixed structures are not feasible.

The facility will incorporate a dedicated offloading point equipped with catch monitoring systems to promote sustainable fishing practices, improve resource management, enhance operations in shallow-water regions, and boost efficiency in the fisheries sector.
