A tragic road accident in Gulistan-e-Johar resulted in the death of a pedestrian on Saturday, sparking public fury and violent protests. The incident occurred near Perfume Chowk when a speeding water tanker hit a man, later identified as 50-year-old Nasir, son of Allah Wasaaya from Johar. Nasir succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic and horrifying, with an enraged crowd setting the tanker ablaze after the driver managed to escape. Reports suggest that the driver may have faced assault from the public before fleeing. Police, including personnel from Sharae Faisal police station, swiftly arrived at the scene to restore order. Fire brigade teams from Gulistan-e-Johar fire station extinguished the blaze affecting the front of the tanker.
SHO Imtiaz Hussain confirmed that the police are investigating the incident, collecting witness statements, and analyzing CCTV footage to determine the crash's circumstances. The victim's body was taken to the hospital for further procedures.
In separate traffic accidents at Peoples Chowrangi and Mauripur Road, two women lost their lives while a man was injured. Near Peoples Chowrangi, a woman named Saima, aged 35, was fatally hit by a bus, and her husband Imran, aged 40, sustained injuries. Both were residents near Safoora Chowrangi, and the authorities have detained the bus and its driver.
In another incident, a 25-year-old woman was killed by a loading truck near Peoples Stadium on Mauripur Road in the Kalri area. Her identity remains unknown, and her body was taken to the morgue for identification by relatives.
