Egypt Unveils 'Octagon' Military Headquarters in Major Defense Initiative

Egypt has unveiled its new Strategic Command Headquarters, named the "Octagon," as a significant demonstration of Cairo's military strength. This move is part of a broader trend of countries, including Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and others, focusing on military build-up in recent years.

During the inauguration of the new Strategic Command HQ, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi stated, "Egypt is committed to peace for those who want peace." Sisi, who came to power in 2013 following the ousting of the Muslim Brotherhood after their brief rule from 2012-2013, has maintained strong relations with the United States.

The "Octagon" military center is described as a major advancement in developing the command and control system and enhancing the defense capabilities of the Egyptian Armed Forces, according to reports from AI-Ain News. Sisi emphasized that the strategic command headquarters, located in the new capital, facilitates integration, planning, and coordination to effectively address challenges.

The design of the headquarters draws inspiration from ancient Egyptian civilization, with an octagonal layout symbolizing strength and close interdependence between state branches. The center comprises eight central buildings of octagonal design and utilizes cutting-edge technologies such as big data and cybersecurity.

The opening of the headquarters has garnered extensive coverage in Egyptian and regional media, highlighting how it enables Egypt to demonstrate its regional capabilities effectively.
